What You'll Do:
The Project Manager / Project Engineer (PM/PE) is a hybrid role responsible for the end-to-end execution of assigned thermal engineering projects. You will act as the bridge between technical engineering and project management, ensuring projects are delivered on time, on budget, and to the highest technical standards.
In this role, you will manage project scope, schedule, and budget while providing technical coordination. You will be responsible for adherence to Solex’s Professional Practice Management Plan (PPMP) and ensuring seamless execution from the initial handover from sales through to final delivery.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Project Management & Execution
- Project Planning: Create and maintain the Master Project Schedule, Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), and Project Execution Plans (PEPs) using standard PMO templates.
- Execution Oversight: Manage project scope, budget, and client communication, while proactively identifying risks and managing changes per standard PMO processes.
- Handover & Initiation: Manage the handover from Technical Sales to ensure a seamless transfer of technical and commercial information and chair Project Kick-Off meetings.
- Procurement & Vendors: Manage the Vendor Quality Interface and procurement oversight; serve as the primary conduit for fabricator Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) documentation (e.g., ITPs, MTRs).
- Technical Engineering (Project Engineer)
- Technical Coordination: Provide overall technical coordination to ensure deliverables align with scope and contractual requirements.
- Deliverable Management: Generate and manage the Technical Work Log (TWL), actively monitoring and driving the completion of all engineering deliverables with the design team.
- Technical Review: Review key engineering documents (e.g., PFDs, P&IDs, major equipment datasheets, GAs, etc.,) for completeness and adherence to standards before formal issuance.
- APEGA Compliance: Ensure all engineering deliverables adhere to the Professional Practice Management Plan (PPMP), verifying required quality checks (e.g., Inter-Disciplinary Checks, P.Eng. stamps) are documented before external transmission.
- Documentation & Control
- Manage information flow via the Master Document Register (MDR) and formal transmittals.
- Ensure accurate financial reporting and cost control for assigned projects.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
- Professional Designation: Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with APEGA.
- Experience: 5+ years of experience in project management or project engineering, preferably in an industrial, manufacturing, or thermal processing environment.
- Technical Skills: Strong understanding of engineering principles with the ability to conduct high-level technical reviews of engineering deliverables.
- Software: Proficiency in MS Project and standard office suites.
Key Competencies:
- Hybrid Capability: Ability to balance “process discipline" (PM) with "technical acumen" (PE).
- Communication: Strong skills in managing client expectations and aligning with internal engineering leads.
- Detail Oriented: Meticulous attention to compliance, documentation, and process adherence.
Working Conditions:
- Role is based out of Solex’s Calgary office, with a hybrid work arrangement. Employees may work from home on Mondays and Fridays, with in-office days Tuesday through Thursday.
